Circle vs. Coven
While the terms can overlap, circle and coven often carry different meanings in contemporary witchcraft.
circle → A gathering or shared space for witchcraft. It can be open, flexible, and centered on learning, discussion, sharing, and exploration. May be informal and non-hierarchical. Used across many types of witchcraft and spiritual communities. Gathering, connection, shared space. (usually)
coven → A group of witches who practice together as an ongoing group, often with more defined commitments, shared traditions, or an established structure. May have an established tradition, leadership, or initiation. Often shared rituals, training, and a sustained group practice. Dedicated group, collective practice, sometimes an inner circle. (usually)
